THE FATHER of a 14-week-old boy has been remanded in custody accused of his murder.
Ryan Leslie appeared before Belfast Magistrates Court yesterday following the death of his son Cameron on Saturday.
Mr Leslie, Ballyvessey Green, New Mossley, Newtownabbey, was seen to shake his head in the dock before speaking to confirm he understood the charge against him.
His son died in hospital after being admitted last Thursday with a number of injuries.
A detective inspector claimed he could connect Mr Leslie to the charge.
The detective confirmed during cross-examination that Mr Leslie had co-operated with police and provided an account during extensive interviews.
The officer told defence solicitor John Greer that Mr Leslie had maintained his innocence at all times.
The court heard three pathologists had been involved in the case, with Mr Greer insisting preliminary findings made no reference to subdural haemorrhage.
The detective replied: "Brain trauma was put to the accused during interview."
Pressed further on the phrasing used, he said he believed his officers had used the term retinal haemorrhage.
No application for bail was made.
The detective confirmed that police would not object to Mr Leslie being released if a suitable address and sureties were provided.
Judge George Conner remanded him in custody for one week.
