SCIENTISTS are being assisted in the search for a curb for meningitis by families of those who have suffered from the disease. Family members gave blood at a donor day in St James's Hospital, Dublin, yesterday.

More than 700 families from Ireland and the UK will be donating blood for a survey.

This will compare blood given by families who have experienced meningitis with that of their friends who have not.

Scientists from St Mary's Hospital, in London, hope to identify factors which might make individuals genetically susceptible to meningitis and septicaemia.
