If they'd done the work, students sitting yesterday's Junior Cert technical graphics exams would have sailed through the papers. So said Patrick McNamara, who spoke to Exam Times on behalf of the Association of Materials Technology and Graphics Teachers (AMTGT). The higher paper, he said, was fair and predictable. "In the past the higher paper has been too long," said Mr Patrick McVicar who teaches at the Community School, Falcarragh, Co Donegal. "This year's easing off of the amount of material to be done is welcome."
Section A, consisting of 15 short questions, was plain sailing, teachers agreed. "In section B," noted Mr McNamara, "only one question could have caused some people some grief." This was question 3 on isometric projections.
"Pupils may not have come across it before. Normally they do the projections of a solid," he said. According to Mr McVicar, the ordinary-level paper was exceptionally good. "The models were well chosen and the diagrams were clearly presented," he said.
