KHARTOUM - A Sudanese faction holding three Red Cross workers is demanding $50 million (£30 million) as compensation for fighters killed by the Sudan People's Liberation Army (SPLA), press reports said yesterday.

Maj Kerbino Kuanyen, head of a faction which split from the rebel SPLA, is demanding the money on the grounds that the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) offers assistance to the SPLA.
