Galway Corporation has approved plans for a £2.5 million revamp of Eyre Square, which will include rerouting of traffic and the provision of more green space. It is hoped half of the funding for the project will come from the European Union.
Both Labour Party councillors voted against the plan. Mr Tom Costello said he was not sure whether it was a wise way of spending £2.5 million, given all of the other needs of the city.
