Ex-footballer is refused bail

A court in England has refused bail to a former footballer accused of plotting to export heroin to the Republic.

A court in England has refused bail to a former footballer accused of plotting to export heroin to the Republic.

Former St Patrick's Athletic player, Mr Derek Dunne (28) of Alfie Byrne House, Dublin, was further remanded in custody by magistrates in Bootle, near Liverpool, yesterday following an unsuccessful bail application.

It is alleged that Mr Dunne conspired with others to export heroin to the Republic between July 1st, 1994, and March 21st, 1995. He was arrested at Manchester airport on January 5th.
