Kaduna - Gen Ibrahim Babangida, the former Nigerian dictator and one of the closest advisers to the present regime, yesterday called for the military to return to their barracks and for democratic elections, overseen by the military, to be held in the next six to nine months.
His views, in an exclusive interview with the Guardian, are a clear pointer to the shape of the transition programme which is expected to be announced by Gen Abdulsalam Abubakar in the next few days.
