Everton striker Duncan Ferguson fought off two burglars
at his home in the early hours of Sunday.
Ferguson, 29 escaped with a minor injury. One of the intruders was still in hospital on Monday, although his injuries are not thought to be serious. Police hope to question him later in the day.
A police spokesperson said on Monday they were not in a position to name the homeowner involved in the incident but said of him: "He has been interviewed by Lancashire police and we are satisfied that he acted both bravely and responsibly when encountering these intruders in his home."
Police are continuing to look for the second offender. Reuters
