A good night for the Irish in the European Cup was marked by wins for Leinster and Ulster, who defeated Cardiff and Stade Francais respectively.

Tries from John McWeeney and Keith Gleeson, with conversions from Brian O'Meara helped the Lions on their way to a 24-19 victory at Arms Park.

Meanwhile, Ulster fought back from a two-point halftime deficit (9-11) to win their Pool 3 clash with Stade Francais 22-20 at Ravenhill.

A try from Paddy Wallace and a penalties from David Humphries proved just enough for the Ulstermen.

Elsewhere, Edinburgh defeated Neath-Swansea 32-16, while Toulouse conquered a poor Leeds Tykes side 19-3.
