The EU's Danish presidency said talks over the taxation of EU residents' savings are "still in a state of motion".

Danish finance minister Mr Thor Pedersen said all member states are giving the issue high priority, and ministers will reconvene at a date and venue yet to be fixed.

The European Commission and the presidency will first conduct fresh talks with Switzerland on the basis of a compromise proposed by the presidency, Mr Pederson said.

He said the special meeting, which could be held in Copenhagen or in Brussels, will also deal with the taxation of energy, another dossier due for approval by December 31st.
