Paris - Police in southern France were hunting yesterday for two motorists who shot and critically wounded a policeman during a road check, amid suspicions that they belong to the Basque separatist group ETA.
Police said the unidentified assailants shot the officer at least seven times as he and a colleague checked their documents near the south-western town of Pau on Wednesday evening.
