Manila - The Philippine Supreme Court ruled yesterday that disgraced president Joseph Estrada was no longer the country's leader, clearing the way for the filing of criminal charges against him - one of them punishable by death.

Thirteen justices of the court stood by their previous decision that Ms Gloria Macapagal Arroyo was the legitimate president, rejecting an Estrada appeal and stripping him of any immunity from prosecution.
