ESB, unions in talks to avert Monday strike
SIPTU and the ESBOA have been joined by the ATGWU and TEEU in making a common claim to management for a 30 per cent pay increas.
The ATGWU and TEEU have said that they are also prepared to issue strike notice, though only after normal procedures have been exhausted.
SIPTU and the ESBOA are pursuing a 30 per cent pay claim. They were joined at the talks by the other unions after their initial decision to “go it alone" produced sharp criticism from both the ATGWU and TEEU.
Over 2,500 network technicians rejected an ESB pay offer last January.
SIPTU branch secretary Mr Tony Dunne said that Friday’s talks were “entirely unsatisfactory” from the unions' viewpoint.
A spokesman for the ESB confirmed the talks had resumed but made no further comment.
