Swedish telecommunications group Ericsson, is to cut its Irish workforce by 140.
The firm, which employs 2,500 people in Dublin and Athlone, is seeking to secure the job cuts on a voluntary basis but says it is prepared to force through compulsory redundancies.
Earlier this year, Ericsson, which has been hit by the slowing telecoms market, said it would axe up to 12,000 jobs worldwide. The company has a workforce of around 100,000.
Ericsson has not yet released a statement on the job cuts.
