Wind warning issued as hot, humid and wet conditions continue

Hot, windy and wet weather is set to cover the country over the weekend, as Met Éireann has issued a wind warning for the south of the country on Friday.

There will be heavy showers across the country today while temperatures will reach 17 to 20 degrees.

Tonight will remain the same with strong winds and temperatures of 12 or 13 degrees expected overnight.

The status yellow wind warning has been put in place from 3pm on Friday until 6pm on Saturday and will effect Wexford, Clare, Cork, Kerry and Waterford.

The unseasonably strong southwesterly winds could reach speeds of 80 or 90km/h in coastal areas.

Drivers have been advised to slow down and increase their braking distance as wet and windy road conditions have been reported this morning.

AA Roadwatch reported an airborne tent loose on the N7 near Athgoe this morning in high winds.

Met Éireann has also issued a status yellow potato blight warning which is due to last until Thursday.

Potato blight is caused by a fungus which spreads in hot, humid and moist weather.

It presents itself as brown freckles or patches on the leaves of potato stalks and can spread rapidly if left untreated.

Conditions will remain blustery with heavy showers on Saturday, before clearing up to periods of sunshine between the rain on Sunday with temperatures remaining at 17 or 18 degrees.
