Warm weather to continue as mercury hits 23 degrees

Temperatures have hit an unseasonable 23 degrees in parts of the country today as Met Éireann has forecast that the warm weather spell will continue into the weekend.

Weather stations at Dublin (Casement Aerodrome) and Kerry (Valentia ) recorded temperatures of 23 degrees at 2pm today . Elsewhere 22 degree temperatures were recorded in Meath, Donegal, and Belmullet, Co Mayo.

The rest of the week will remain warm and humid with above average temperatures, Met Éireann has said. There will be some sunshine but it will be cloudy overall and there will be some showers, Met Éireann has said.

Tomorrow will be sunny and warm, according to the forecasters. Highest temperatures of 18 to 22 or 23 degrees are forecast for tomorrow along with sunshine and light breezes. However some showers will develop in Munster and spread northwards.

It will be slightly cooler on Wednesday and Thursday with maximum temperatures of 16 to 19 degrees or higher in areas where sunshine develops and some sunny spells.

The weekend will be “quite warm for late September”, Met Éireann has said with temperatures in the high teens and up to 20 degrees. However it will be warm but not necessarily sunny as weather is forecast to be mixed with some rain.

Such temperatures are above average for September. The mean daily maximum temperature between 1981 and 2010 for September is 17.1 degrees in Dublin (Casement).
