Sunday was warmest day of the year so far, says Met Éireann

Sunday the warmest day of the year so far according to Met Éireann, with several weather stations across Ireland recording temperatures of 20 degrees or more.

The highest temperature was recorded in Mount Dillon, Co Roscommon at 20.9 degrees, followed by Shannon Airport, Co Clare (20.4); Belmullet, Co Mayo (20.3); Newport Furnace, Co Mayo (20); and Mace Head, Co Galway (20).

Many other areas recorded temperatures of 18 degrees and upwards, according to a social media post from the national forecaster.

Monday morning began with outbreaks of rain in many areas, with sunny spells and scattered showers to follow from the south, according to Met Éireann. A humid day is forecast, with highs of 16-20 degrees and the potential for localised thunder in the northern half of the country.

Monday night will be mild overall, beginning largely dry and clear. Further showery spells will come from the southwest overnight and moderate-to fresh and gusty southeasterly winds will develop.

Rain is set to linger early on Tuesday, with some dry spells and sunshine developing for a time and predicted highs of 14-17 degrees.

The rest of the week will see conditions remain unsettled, with spells of rain and showers.
