Festivalgoers may face weather disruption this weekend

Festivalgoers this weekend are in for a mixed bag weather-wise, as warm, dry conditions on Friday are likely to give way to rain on Saturday.

A weather front approaching mid-weekend means those attending Longitude music festival in Marlay Park may face low temperatures and several hours of rain on Saturday.

However, there is hope, as this front could in fact result in only minor rainfall, according to Harm Luijkx of Met Éireann.

He said Friday will be warm and humid, with temperatures of up to 22 degrees Celsius in the east of the country.

The weekend is also likely to end on a high, as Sunday is forecast to be dry and pleasant, with temperatures of up to 20 degrees.

Records

Last month the majority of the country enjoyed the warmest June in seven years, with the exception of Belmullet, Co Mayo, which experienced its hottest June on record.

However, temperatures so far this month are below average, according to Met Éireann’s climate division.

July’s highest temperature so far was recorded last week in the Phoenix Park in Dublin, where barometers reached 23 degrees.
