A famous face from US television network CNN came in for online mockery on Monday over his knowledge of Scottish geography following a social media post in relation to the UN Cop26 climate change summit.
The broadcaster’s anchor, Wolf Blitzer, tweeted a photo of a temporary studio set up in Edinburgh with the city’s famous castle serving as the backdrop. The summit is taking place in Glasgow, some 75km away.
“I’m now reporting from Edinburgh in Scotland where 20,000 world leaders and delegates have gathered for the COP26 Climate Summit,” Blitzer wrote.
“COP, by the way, stands for ”Conference of the Parties...It’s the 26th time they have gathered to discuss and take action on this critical issue.”

The veteran journalist was mocked on social media after sharing the image.
Referencing an area in Glasgow, Scottish National Party MP David Linden joked: “Pictured in front of Castlemilk.”
Former MP George Galloway added: “Er, it’s in Glasgow.”
Optician Specsavers was among those to poke fun at the Twitter post, quoting the tag line from the chain’s adverts it said: “Should’ve gone to Glasgow”.
CNN has clarified that it also has cameras in Glasgow for the summit in addition to its base in Edinburgh, which is where US president Joe Biden is staying.
The Cop26 summit will see world leaders discuss commitments aimed at helping to reduce the impact of climate change. – PA
