Best of bank holiday weekend weather due today

The best of the bank holiday weekend’s weather is expected today, according to Met Éireann.

Forecasters said today would be warm and dry, with some good sunny spells.

Cloudy periods in some areas are not likely to discourage people from enjoying the outdoors, with safety authorities warning people to take care around water.

Traffic is expected to be heavy on all main routes out of the capital and gardaí have warned they will be operating speed and drink-driving checks across the State.

Temperatures are expected to hit the early 20s, but near the west coast patchy light rain or drizzle will develop later in the day.

There is a small risk of a shower in the east, but otherwise it will be a dry day. Light, variable breezes will become moderate southwesterly in the west.

The outlook is not so good for tomorrow, with changeable and unsettled weather making conditions fresher and cooler.

Rain tomorrow

Tomorrow morning may well start off bright and dry in eastern coastal counties, but misty conditions, with outbreaks of rain and drizzle, will soon become widespread. There will be some hill and coastal fog, and some of the rain will be heavy.

On a more optimistic note, drier, brighter weather will develop in Atlantic coastal counties later in the day. However, the clearance will be slow to extend eastwards, and many areas are likely to stay cloudy and damp right through the afternoon and evening, with some further rain at times. Highs on Sunday of 15 to 18 degrees are expected.

Winds will be moderate to fresh southerly.

Monday and the early days of next week are expected to be showery, with some heavy and possibly thundery showers at times. Temperatures in the mid to high teens will be around normal on Monday, but it will become much cooler and fresher the following few days.
