Another ‘nasty’ storm on the way tomorrow

Hurricane-force winds have relaxed today as snow falls around the country but another "nasty" storm front looks set to hit tomorrow.

Met Éireann has issued a new weather alert fo rainfall and wind for Leinster, Munster and Connacht today.

The snow and ice warnings remains in place until 6pm with scattered snow showers throughout the day and overnight with a build up of up to 3cm.

All alerts are yellow status, the least of weather alerts issued, but Met Éireann urged the public to monitor any changes.

Met Éireann head of forecasting Gerald Fleming said today winds would be "blustery" rather than stormy.

“Another very nasty weather system lined up for Friday. It could bring very heavy rain and potentially strong winds,” he said.

Met Éireann has forecast temperatures would reach a high of 7 degrees today.

Forecaster Joanna Donnelly said there would be heavy rain and snow showers through today.

She warned freezing conditions were expected tonight and roads could be treacherous tomorrow.

Ms Donnelly said strong winds and heavy rain warnings for the early hours of tomorrow morning.

“There’s a rapidly developing system with influence from the atmosphere, which is quite disturbed,” she said.

She said the south-east coast of Leinster and south Munster could be more vulnerable to structural damage from the next bout of windy weather.

Ms Donnelly urged the public to keep an eye on the weather warnings.

“They alerts may be upgraded or reduced,” she said.

Saturday is forecasted to be cold and showery with strong gusts of wind.

Ms Donnelly said Sunday was predicted to be the best day of the weekend.
