The promoter and main ticket seller behind controversial rapper Eminem's two Dublin concerts said they have foiled ticket touts by releasing 3,000 extra tickets.

MCD and Ticketmaster decided to release the tickets last week to prevent profiteering by touts, who they said were demanding "hugely inflated prices" for tickets with a face value of €52.50.

In a statement, MCD said ticket touts hoping to "make a killing" from the two shows at Punchestown Racecourse tomorrow and Thursday, had been "badly stung" by its prompt action.

Some 1,500 additional tickets were issued for each show and were put on sale all over the country immediately.

"The result has been that we have smashed the touts' operation," said Mr Justin Green of MCD.

"The price being demanded for the tickets by the touts has dropped and the number of advertisements offering tickets has also fallen sharply."

The original 97,000 tickets for the shows sold out within a few hours of going on sale.

MCD and Ticketmaster said they both supported calls made this week by concert promoters Aiken Promotions and sporting bodies such as the GAA and the IRFU for government action to outlaw the selling of tickets by touts.

Meanwhile, the Garda will mount a major policing plan for the two Punchestown events.

Parking is available on the site. Motorists will be allowed to drop off concert goers at the site, but must return no later than 10.30pm if they intend to pick up their passengers. Coaches and minibuses will be directed to enter via the Beggarsend Gate and exit via the main gate.

The Garda has also warned that all those entering the concert will be searched. A Garda office will operate at Punchestown during the concerts.
