Emergency services are to stage a road crash between a bus, truck and car in County Sligo today, as part of an emergency planning exercise.

Gardaí, firefighters and ambulance personnel will converge on the village of Curry for the exercise.

Traffic diversions will be in place on the N17 in Curry from 8am to 1pm at the scene of the simulated accident involving a large number of "casualties".  It is the third major exercise which has been carried out at the request of the Government Task Force on Emergency Planning.

Last March, there was a simulated accident in Youghal, County Cork involving a packed bus, four cars and a chemical tanker, and last month there was a simulated train derailment in Maynooth.
