There was tight security at Cork District Court yesterday when eight men were charged in connection with a row between two families on Cork's northside yesterday morning.
Supt Mick O'Loughlin said it was a very serious incident between the O'Driscoll family, of Killalla Gardens and Kilmore Road, and the Walsh family, from Kilmore Road, all in Knocknaheeny.
Mr Christopher Walsh (23) and Mr Gerard Walsh (21), from 106 Kilmore Road, were both charged with possessing slashhooks with the intention of causing injury. Mr Frank McCarthy (22), from 26 Courtown Drive, was charged with having a hurley, and Mr Henry Cullen (20), from 41 Killala Gardens, was charged with having a slashhook.
Mr William O'Driscoll (18), of 53 Killala Gardens, was charged with having a saw and a piece of wood. Mr Nicholas O'Driscoll (26), from 82 Ardcullen, Hollyhill, was charged with having a bolt-cutters and a piece of wood, and Mr John Paul O'Driscoll (18), from 7 Blackwater Grove, Togher, was charged with threatening behaviour and refusing to leave the scene.
Garda objected to bail for all seven, and Judge Con O'Leary remanded six in custody. He granted Mr Cullen bail to appear again on October 12th. An eighth man, Mr John O'Driscoll (18), from 10 Cushing Place, Farranree, was remanded on bail on a charge of threatening behaviour and refusing to leave the scene.
