Eight Indonesian soldiers are feared dead after falling from a helicopter in Aceh province while practising a display for Armed Forces Day.
The soldiers were hanging from a helicopter on ropes when it was caught in a gust of wind over the ocean and the crew had to cut the mens' line to prevent the aircraft from crashing, an army spokesman said.
"They fell into the sea about 300 meters (yards) from the shore," said Lieutenant Colonel Achmad Yani Basuki.
"We sent a fast motor boat to hunt for them but when they arrived in the area they could not see them and we fear they may have drowned."
He declined to say which unit the men were from but the Antara state news agency said they were from the Special Forces Command, known as Kopassus.
Armed Forces Day is on Sunday.
Indonesia put Aceh province, on the northern tip of Sumatra island, under martial law on May 19 and launched an offensive against separatist rebels after peace talks failed to end a war that has killed more than 10,000 people since 1976.
According to the latest military data issued last month, 52 soldiers, 11 policemen and about 300 non-combatants have been killed in the offensive. Government troops have killed 839 rebels and captured 989 since May, the military said.
