Cairo - Egypt has taken a first step toward removing a law that exempts a rapist from punishment if he marries his victim, a cabinet spokesman has said. The Egyptian cabinet voted to adopt a Bill cancelling penal code

section 291, which allows a rapist to escape the consequences of his act by marrying his victim, following an outcry by women's groups in December.
