Eggs were hurled at the home of a Fianna Fáil TD in a late-night attack, the party claimed today.
A spokeswoman said Margaret Conlon’s house in Lough Egish, outside Castleblayney in Monaghan, was targeted shortly after midnight.
No-one was hurt in the incident but her three children were in the house at the time, the eldest of whom is 15.
The party said Ms Conlon is expected to make a statement to the gardaí, although she did not see who did it.
Her constituency colleagues Dr Rory O’Hanlon TD, Senator Francie O’Brien, Senator Diarmuid Wilson and Minister Brendan Smith TD condemned the incident.
In a joint statement they said: “We condemn completely out of hand the attack on Deputy Margaret Conlon’s home in the early hours of this morning.
“In a democracy protest has always been, and continues to be, an acceptable form of expression when exercised within the law.
“But it is entirely unacceptable than anyone should violate the privacy of the home, particularly when there are young children present.
“We want to express our solidarity with Deputy Conlon and her family, and to condemn the act of vandalism on her home.”
Gardai would not comment on whether a complaint had been made.
