Representatives from Irish universities and colleges, north and south, have come together to launch a new national organisation for higher education.

AISHE, the All-Ireland Society for Higher Education, will promote the professional recognition and development of teaching and learning in higher education on the island.

President of AISHE and dean of teaching in DCU Dr Barry McMullin says the new society will be a "networking vehicle to improve and discuss teaching techniques and issues relevant to third-level education."

AISHE will organise events to facilitate contact between members and offer courses to "promote best practice" and ensure better quality of teaching and learning in Irish universities.
