TCD STUDENTS' union celebrates its 21st anniversary this week with a Union Awareness Week, a mix of celebration and information.
"It's been put together as a fin week to raise people's awareness of the union and to show it in a fun light," students' union president Priya Nair says.
Following last night's fashion show and party in the ever trendy POD, tonight sees the union hosting a debate and forum with past TCD graduates.
These are set to include Tanaiste Dick Spring and former students' union stalwart Marty Whelan, who has swopped his revolutionary hat and scarf for a well cut suit as Fianna Fail's press officer.
The venue is the college's Ed Burke Theatre, and there will be a reception to follow.
On Wednesday at 1 p.m. a balloon launch will be held in College Park in aid of the Dublin AIDS Alliance, and AIDS remembrance quilts will be hung from buildings around the college.
The student Junior Common Room, currently under threat of closure by the college, will be the venue for lunchtime concerts throughout the week. Last week, hundreds of students attended a demonstration in the front square of the college in an effort to guarantee the JCR's future.
The college had attempted to close the JCR last summer, but the common room was given an extra year of life. It is now due to close in its present incarnation above the college's front arch early this summer.
