Make Your Own Storybook, a communications project between Transition Year students in Ashbourne Community School, Co Meath, and first class in the nearby Gaelscoil, is getting its final touches. It has been in train for 10 weeks with the objective of heightening reading skills awareness and of promoting an interest in reading in young children. To this end students were asked to complete a personal log/ diary, answer a questionnaire, listen to stories, read aloud, share skills and ideas and more. The Transition Year students used a digital camera to take pictures of themselves in conversation with the children from GaelScoil na Cille for inclusion in the final draft of each book.
