A LEAVING Certificate student who completed three exams in one day yesterday in a marathon session lasting over nine hours said she was exhausted but relieved to have the exams behind her.
Niamh Collins, from Christ the King Secondary School in Cork city, was left with little choice but to sit her final three exams in religious education, Japanese and Italian on the same day due to clashes on the exam timetable.
Speaking shortly before 10pm lats night, Ms Collins said: “It was really tiring. I think I zoned out at times during the last exam. I have the biggest blister on my hand. I am so happy, though. I am sitting here drinking champagne with my family and friends.”
Ms Collins began her last day of exams at 9.30am yesterday and did not finish until 9.20pm.
Italian and Japanese were scheduled for the same time on the same day so Niamh had to
stay on at the exam centre following her Italian exam to ensure she did not speak to anybody who had completed the Japanese exam.
Speaking prior to the examinations yesterday, she said she felt some accommodation could have been made for her and others in her situation but the Department of Education did not wish to change the schedule.
