ARE scientists really Frankensteins? This and other scary questions will be posed at "a horrific evening" at the IFC in Dublin's Temple Bar this Saturday. Science and Transition Year teachers, be forewarned.

Is Frankenstein "the most powerful stereotype there is of ascientist"? Such ponderables will be teased out in discussion during the evening with the geneticist, Professor Paddy Cunningham of Trinity College, Dublin, as the guest speaker.

Those who attend will also be able to enjoy a double-bill programme featuring the classic 1931 Frankenstein and the 1994 remake, Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. The evening coincides with the European Week of Science and Culture and the Centenary of Cinema in Ireland.

The event will run from 6 pm to 11 pm. The evening's entertainment, which includes a fork supper, is a "science and culture" production in association with the IFC, and costs £15.
