The People's College in Parnell Square, Dublin, has a range of 50 evening classes on its autumn schedule. The college has a policy of keeping its tuition fees as low as possible. For example, a 22-week beginners Italian courses costs £30, an introduction to computers costs £40 and basic maths is just £10 for 22 classes. Courses on offer range from archaeology and sociology to legal studies, personal development and computers. Yoga, languages, music appreciation, painting and massage are also catered for. Enrolments take place between now and September 30th from Monday to Thursday between 10 a.m. and 5.30 p.m. including lunchtimes. The telephone number for information is (01) 873 5879.

There has been a big upsurge in the number of people learning Irish. Bord na Gaeilge has a range of courses to suit all levels and information is available from 7, Merrion Square, Dublin 2. A number of Dublin public libraries offer self-learning computer tutorial packages and the ILAC library in Mary Street and Ballyfermot library also offer public Internet access. If you are curious about the Internet but don't know how to use it a member of the library staff will help you to get going.

Computer courses such as discovering PC basics, Windows 95, Powerpoint and Lotus 1-2-3 are available. A total of seven libraries have self-learning facilities but the choice of courses on offer differs from library to library. The participating libraries are the central library in the ILAC centre, Ballyfermot, Finglas, Ballymun, Coolock, Donaghmede and Raheny.
