If you're planning on getting your garden in shape in the new year and you want to do it organically but you're not sure where to start, a course at the Organic Centre in Leitrim might solve your problem. The centre was set up in 1995 as a non-profit-making company whose aim is to provide training, information and demonstrations of organic gardening, growing and farming. The centre is located on a 20-acre site in Rossinver in north Leitrim. There is a display garden for visitors including a children's garden and the on-site shop stocks fresh herbs grown at the centre and products for the amateur and professional grower. They also keep ducks, geese, hens and Kerry cows at the centre.
The centre's courses programme for 2001 is already available and it is wide-ranging covering all sorts of organic and environmental topics such as growing in tunnels and greenhouses, developing an organic kitchen garden, garden compost making and intensive vegetable production. You can check out course details on the centre's website at www.theorganiccentre.ie or you can telephone (072) 54338 or fax (072) 54343 for a brochure.
