My kids have taken a stance against Harry Potter. They are fed up being marketed to. They've come up with this policy entirely on their own and I have to say I kind of admire them for it. But why couldn't they have rebelled against PokΘmon?

I love Harry Potter. I read it aloud at bed-time on the pretext of entertaining the children, until they bash me with pillows and make me stop.

The fact that some parents think Harry Potter should be censored because it involves the occult is worrying.

No child is going to be corrupted by a book, as long as the child knows how to read intelligently and has somebody to talk to about what they are reading.

We should be teaching our children how to think independently and to read critically. Savvy kids don't think that Harry Potter books give evidence of the power of the occult, anymore than they believe that Alice really went down a rabbit hole. We should read what they're reading and be able to discuss it with them. Above all, we should be grateful that J K Rowling has so many kids reading imaginatively again.
