Course profile: MSc Biotechnology programme at NUI Galway

The MSc Biotechnology programme at NUI Galway is the longest-running course of its kind in Ireland.

The course was recognised at the Mansion House, Dublin, where the programme was awarded the Gradireland 2016 Postgraduate Course of the Year award (science category).

Highly regarded nationally and internationally as a programme through which students develop the skills, knowledge and experience required for a successful career in biotechnology, the programme has research, innovation and commercialisation at its core.

Through tutorials, lectures, assignments and a research project, the course focuses on the development and application of biological processes in research, commercial and industrial settings.

The MSc Biotechnology programme is suitable for applicants who have a primary degree in biological sciences and wish to develop a career in a sector of high employment.

Selection is based on academic record, previous relevant experience and a personal statement.

Candidates must hold at least a second class honours, level 8 (or equivalent international qualification) primary degree in science or a related subject, with a strong background in biological sciences.

Those who are shortlisted for the course may be invited for interview.

The MSc Biotechnology programme is available on a one-year full-time or two-year part-time basis and average intake is eight to 10 full-time and one to two part-time.
