The Union of Students in Ireland's national Feile Gaelach is being marked all next week in colleges around the country.

Events will take place in 10 third-level colleges as part of what USI describes as a "cultural rag week". The high points of the week include a ceili in Galway next Tuesday, November 10th, and a ceili/disco in Dublin on Thursday, November 12th, to which students from colleges all over Ireland will travel.

Traditional music sessions, table quizzes and debates will also take place in local colleges.

The week is organised by USI's Irish language office, which promotes the use of the language among students, particularly "in a social context".

USI's Irish language officer, Julian de Spainn, says the office aims to maintain USI's bilingual policy and ultimately help remove Irish from the United Nations' list of endangered languages.
