Ecstasy worth over €1m sized in Rosslare

Ecstasy tablets with a street value of around €1 million have been seized by gardaí at Rosslare port, it emerged today.

Ecstasy tablets with a street value of around €1 million have been seized by gardaí at Rosslare port, it emerged today.

A car was stopped by officers at 10pm on Saturday after it came off a ferry from Cherbourg, France, as part of a joint operation by Customs and the Garda National Drugs Unit.

Around 110,000 tablets were found hidden in the car that had travelled from Lithuania, through France. A 27-year-old Lithuanian man was arrested and was being detained at Wexford Garda station.

A garda spokesman said: "This seizure, depending on the result of forensic analysis of the substance seized, may have a potential street value of €1,100,000".
