A reaction to the drug ecstasy resulted in the death of a 22-year-old Cork student after last year’s Electric Picnic, an inquest heard.

Saoirse McShane, originally from Inchigeela but living at North Mall in Cork city, died of a heart attack brought on by the drug she had taken with friends at the Co Laois festival.

“Everybody that takes a tablet takes a risk,” the assistant state pathologist Dr Margaret Bolster said at Cork City Coroner’s Court yesterday.
