A judge has described the attitude adopted by Dunnes Stores to a larceny charge as "ridiculous" and has ordered a company representative to explain the situation to Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

Judge Elizabeth Dunne heard that Dunnes Stores had refused to allow an engineer employed by the defence into one of their shops unless he signed an indemnity clause. The engineer was employed by a woman charged with stealing £126 worth of groceries to make a map of the store. Her trial is expected to begin later this week.
