The dispute over the suspension of a worker at the biggest supermarket in the west of Ireland, which was due to lead to an all-out strike today, has been resolved.
Management at Dunnes Stores on the Headford Road in Galway resolved the dispute during a meeting with union officials at the store on Friday.
The workers, members of the Mandate trade union, agreed to call off their industrial action after they had issued management with strike notice on Monday of last week.
More than 170 staff members staged an unofficial protest after a female employee was suspended, with pay, when she sampled a pasta salad after a customer inquired about its garlic content three weeks ago.
The dispute arose when the female employee was not allowed to choose her representatives at a disciplinary hearing, which was eventually held with her shop steward present, on Friday afternoon.
