Dubliner Mr Tom O'Brien (35) is struggling with Australian bureaucracy over the name of his four month old son.
Mr O'Brien and his Australian wife Leanne thought they had won the fight three months ago when the Western Australian Registrar General's office agreed belatedly they could call the boy Ciaran - with a fada on the second a. The office had ruled earlier names with accents were not allowed on birth certificates because of computer problems.
"There is a crucial principle here. I want to perpetuate my Gaelic heritage. And I will take the case right down to the wire," said Mr O'Brien.
He had not had a reply to a letter he sent to Australian Foreign Affairs Minister Alexander Downer two months ago, pleading for support.
He says he has also written to the Tanaiste, Mr Spring, and the Australian Federal Ombudsman.
