A Dublin man who was fatally shot as he got out of his car pleaded for mercy with the lone gunman, an inquest has heard.
Pascal Boland (43), Ashcroft Court, Blakestown, was shot seven times as he got out of his car in his driveway on January 27th, 1999, Dublin County Coroner's Court heard yesterday.
Lisa Quinn told the inquest she watched her boyfriend get out of his car from an upstairs window and then heard several gunshots and saw a lone gunman run away.
"I heard Pascal say, 'Don't shoot me, don't shoot me', at the same time as the shots," she said. She witnessed a man dressed in black running from the scene.
Mr Boland was taken to Blanchardstown hospital but was later pronounced dead from multiple gunshot injuries to the chest and legs. Aran Hunt, who was walking through Blakestown at the time, said he heard a number of shots and then saw a man dressed in black running from the direction of Ashcroft Court and jumping into a red car. It did a 180-degree turn in order to pick the man up. Gardaí said they believed the car was headed in the Mulhuddart direction.
Mr Boland, originally from Finglas, was known to gardaí.
Det Insp Brian Sherry of Blanchardstown station told the court that no one had been charged and there was little chance of anyone being arrested in connection with the killing at this stage.
Mary Stephanie Boland indicated her family were unhappy with the Garda investigation into her father's death and said gardaí failed to tell them the inquest was being held yesterday. A jury returned a verdict of death by unlawful killing by a person unknown.
