Dublin is expected to host the Irish premiere of Angela's Ashes" in early January. The Mayor of Limerick, Cllr Jack Bourke, has called on the filmmakers to reconsider their position and take the gala premiere to Limerick.
It was learned yesterday that there are moves to have the premiere on January 13th, the same day it was planned to have "a showing" in Limerick. The Dublin premiere was fixed provisionally for January 12th, with a nationwide release two days later.
Appealing for Limerick to be chosen for the main launch of the film, Cllr Browne suggesting the University of Limerick Concert Hall as a venue. Angela's Ashes had its roots in Limerick and it did not make sense to have the Irish premiere elsewhere, he added.
