National College of Art and Design fashion graduate Ann-Marie Rigney is this year's winner of River Island's €5,000 student bursary.

A three-month internship at the company's head office in London is part of the prize.

Ms Rigney, from Shankill, Co Dublin, will follow in the footsteps of last year's winner, Dubliner Lucy Moller, who is now a full-time member of the company's design staff.

Ms Rigney's tailored collection, with its ultra-stylish and original origami approach to pleating and folding, impressed the judges for its sophistication and elegance.

"As it's so hard to get a first step in the door, I am delighted," she said.
