Dublin City Council has appointed a new head of the Temple Bar Cultural Trust following the recent temporary departure of its chief executive.

Ray Yeates, the city arts officer and a member of the TBCT board, has been given responsibility for its management. It follows the secondment of chief executive Dermot McLaughlin to the Derry City of Culture 2013 project last October for a period of 15 months.

Mr Yeates, the former artistic director of Axis Ballymun, was appointed to his role as arts officer in 2011.

While his unveiling as head of the Temple Bar Cultural Trust has been cited as a temporary measure to cover the absence of Mr McLaughlin, sources close to the TBCT believe it indicates the first tentative steps toward the reincorporation of the body into Dublin City Council.
