African drummers and street performers took part in a protest by the Debt and Development Coalition outside the Japanese embassy in Dublin yesterday. It was designed to highlight Japan's opposition to early relief for Uganda from its heavy burden of debt.

A decision is to be taken at the spring meeting of the IMF and World Bank this weekend.

The Debt and Development Coalition warned that any postponement could cause over one million Ugandan children to be turned away from primary school this year.
