Drug dealer may be behind shooting

GARDAÍ BELIEVE a gun attack at a house in north Dublin on Wednesday night was carried out by a drug dealer from the Ballymun area.

The 29-year-old victim was at his girlfriend’s home at Drynam Drive, Kinsealy, when a gunman fired a shot at the back door just after 10pm. The armed man then kicked in the back door as the occupants of the house fled upstairs.

The target of the shooting and his girlfriend tried to lock themselves into an upstairs bedroom. Another woman who was watching television in the house with the couple hid in the bathroom of the house.

The gunman kicked in the bathroom door. However, when he realised the woman was inside he then tried to gain access to the bedroom where the couple were hiding.

The gunman fired a number of shots through the bedroom door as the target tried to keep the door closed. The victim was wounded in the neck, arm and chest.

The gunman then ran back down the stairs and escaped via the back door of the house. The two women escaped injury as did a baby who was also in the property at the time.

The occupants of the house rang the emergency services and the wounded man was taken by ambulance to Beaumont Hospital. His injuries are said to not be life threatening. The scene of the shooting was sealed off and underwent a forensic examination yesterday by members of the Garda Technical Bureau.

Gardaí are following a definite line of inquiry. They believe the attacker is a Ballymun drug dealer.
