Driving charges against Westlife star dropped

Charges of speeding and careless driving against former Westlife singer Brian McFadden were struck out of court today.

Charges of speeding and careless driving against former Westlife singer Brian McFadden were struck out of court today.

The millionaire pop star appeared at Balbriggan District Court in north Co Dublin, charged with three motoring offences on the M1 dating from more than three years ago.

Judge Patrick Brady threw out the case, saying there were unwarranted delays.

Judge Brady said: "Such delays cannot be foisted on the defendant. The delays on this case for which the State are responsible amount to an unwarranted invasion of the defendant's right to a speedy trial."

As McFadden was ushered from the court he said he was glad the matter had finally been resolved. "It's finally over. I'm glad".
