Allianz football league round-up:A last second penalty from Kildare's Johnny Doyle secured a draw with Galway and promotion to Division 1 at Pearse Stadium this afternoon. They will now face an unbeaten Tyrone in the Division 2 final.
Armagh and Laois move in the opposite direction following defeats to Donegal and Down, while the Division 1 semi-final line-up was also confirmed. Cork will face Down while Kerry must repeat today’s fixture against Mayo. It finished 1-12 apiece in Tralee.
Down beat Laois 2-11 to 0-10, while Dublin lost in Cork 1-12 to 0-12. Dublin manager Pat Gilroy stated afterwards the most recent footballers of the year, brothers Bernard and Alan Brogan, are due to return to full training next week after injury lay-offs.
These matches will take place next Sunday with the final on April 29th, the same day Mickey Harte’s Tyrone play Kieran McGeeney’s Kildare.
The pressure will intensify even more on Meath manager Seamus McEnaney following their relegation to Division 3 having surprisingly lost to Louth at Páirc Tailteann in Navan.
Monaghan were also relegated with Longford and Wexford going up to Division 2 next year. That pair will also repeat today’s game in the Division 3 final, as Jason Ryan’s Wexford seek to reverse the 2-12 to 1-13 defeat.
Offaly’s problems continue as their defeat to Tipperary, under new manager Peter Creedon, sees them drop into Division 4.
Meanwhile, Clare beat Limerick 0-21 to 1-16 on Saturday night to secure promotion to Division 1 of the National Hurling League with Conor McGrath responsible for 0-12. They now face Kilkenny in the Division 1 semi-final at Semple Stadium on April 22nd.
